SIS User Showcase workshop

Join us in Portugal for the First Showcase of the demonstrator climate services developed within the Sectoral Information Systems component of the Copernicus Climate Change Service. The event will introduce key components of the C3S infrastructure and, using the demonstrators and the case studies developed within the SIS contracts, demonstrate how C3S users can take advantage of the Copernicus open data policy to access climate data from the Climate Data Store (CDS) and use the tools and workflows available the CDS Toolbox to access climate information to develop user oriented climate services. The event will showcase the services developed within the SIS contracts for users operating in water management, agriculture & forestry, tourism, insurance, energy, health and coastal sectors.

The days will cover:

  • Service updates
  • Demonstration of sectoral applications
  • How C3S data has facilitated added value for C3S users
  • Training on the Climate Data Store and climate services developed within the Sectoral Information System (SIS) activities.
  • How C3S data and infrastructure enables development of downstream climate services
  • Contractor led side meetings

About C3S, the SIS and the Showcase

The Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) is being implemented by ECMWF on behalf of the European Union. The Climate Data Store (CDS) is the nucleus of the C3S offering and is a standardised entry-point to a huge wealth of geographically distributed, quality controlled climate data which allows for the development of tailored applications and services on a cloud-based computational platform.

The Sectoral Information System (SIS) component of C3S transforms the climate data contained in the CDS and tailors it to the requirements of users, with a specific focus on intermediaries and policy makers. C3S have engaged with various sectors and showed how the CDS infrastructures could be used to address the needs of users.

This showcase will introduce the key elements of the C3S service; The Climate Data Store, Toolbox, Sectoral Information System and Evaluation and Quality Control (EQC) activities. Using the demonstrators and case studies developed within the SIS contracts this showcase will demonstrate how C3S users can take advantage of the Copernicus open data policy to access climate data and use the tools and workflows available within the SIS services and CDS Toolbox to access relevant climate information and develop tailored climate services.

The agenda and details on the venue will be circulated early February 2019.
