DESCRIPTION:\nOverview\n\nThis course focuses on current state of the art\
, recent advances and future challenges in high-resolution numerical model
ling of the atmosphere and ocean. Latest advances in efficiency and numeri
cal methods will be discussed.\n\nWe believe this course is quite unique w
ithin the atmospheric community.\n\nTopics\n\n\n	Governing equations\n	Hyd
rostatic/Non-hydrostatic dynamics\n	Horizontal and vertical discretisation
s\n	Time-integration\, advection and high order space discretisation schem
es\n	Elliptic solvers\n	Numerical techniques for solving the prognostic eq
uations in the ECMWF model (IFS)\n	Numerical techniques for massively para
llel computer architectures expected in the future\n\n\nRequirements\n\nPa
rticipants should have a good mathematical background\, and are expected t
o be familiar with the contents of standard meteorological and mathematica
l textbooks. A familiarity with python is useful for some of the practical
sessions.\n\nIntroductory material not covered by the course can be found
in our lecture note series.\n\nSome practical experience in numerical wea
ther prediction is an advantage.\n\nAll lectures will be given in English.
\n\nPlease note that no funds are available from ECMWF to support particip
ants' attendance at training courses.\n\nA course fee is payable by applic
ants who do not reside in an ECMWF Member or Co-operating State.\n\n\nhttp
