DESCRIPTION:\nDue to the COVID-19 (coronavirus) crisis this training cours
 e was held virtually.\nThis five-day module is a combination of lectures\,
hands-on practicals using the Single Column Model\, and group problem cla
sses.\n\nDuring the course each parametrized process is introduced and the
n discusses theory\, modelling and verification over several sessions.\n\n
Processes considered\n\n\n	General aspects of parametrization and their re
lation to systematic forecast errors\n	Radiation in numerical weather pred
iction\n	The parametrization of moist processes (convection and clouds)\n
The planetary boundary layer\n	Land surface processes\n	Parametrization of
subgrid-scale orographic effects\n	The representation of physical process
es in data assimilation\n\n\nPre-course study\n\nParticipants will be expe
cted to take up to 4 online modules before taking the course.  This will
provide introductory information on parametrization\, convection\, single
column modelling and the metview interface that will be used in the practi
cal sessions.\n\nIt is anticipated that this study will take around 4 hour
s depending on levels of prior knowledge.\n\nRequirements\n\nParticipants
should have a good meteorological and mathematical background\, and are ex
pected to be familiar with the contents of standard meteorological and mat
hematical textbooks.\n\nIntroductory material not covered by the course ca
n be found in our lecture note series.\n\nSome practical experience in num
erical weather prediction is an advantage.\n\nAll lectures will be given i
 n English.\n\n\nhttps://events.ecmwf.int/event/156/
