DESCRIPTION:This course was a remote event.\n\nThe objective of this cours
e is to assist Member States and Co-operating States in advanced training
on the operational aspects of the ECMWF forecasting system. The aim of the
course is to increase participants’ ability to examine and assess ECMWF
output products. It is directed towards staff who are (or will be) using
ECMWF products either directly as forecasting staff or in research and dev
elopment work\, and to trainers and training champions. The course aims to
help users get maximum benefit from the Centre's products.\n\nLectures on
aspects of the ECMWF forecasting system will be complemented with practic
al sessions where participants will use ECMWF forecasts in real case situa
tions. Participants will have the opportunity to familiarise themselves wi
th recently developed web applications for data visualisation.\n\nThe ense
mble forecast (ENS) will be presented and the range of available products
will be introduced. A large part of the course will be devoted to the inte
rpretation of these products and to the evaluation of their quality. Poten
tial benefits of the probabilistic formulation of the forecast for medium-
range to seasonal-range applications will also be demonstrated.\n\nThe fir
st course of the year is aimed at trainers and training champions. There w
ill be a number of activities (for example lectures\, practical\, games) t
o help trainers to design learning experiences that enhance the understand
ing of ensemble forecasts and the use of ECMWF products.\n\nWe will ask pa
rticipants to complete pre-course activities or learning tasks which will
take up to a maximum of one day of self-study. Completing pre-course activ
ities helps to ensure that participants are prepared to learn and apply th
e new content in the course. It also provides information that trainers ne
ed to make the course more relevant to students' experience and working en
vironment. These tasks include completing two eLearning modules (1 hour) a
nd contributing to a forum discussion.\n\nhttps://events.ecmwf.int/event/2
