DESCRIPTION:\nThis course was a remote event.\n\nThis course focuses on cu
rrent state of the art\, recent advances and future challenges in high-res
olution numerical modelling of the atmosphere and ocean. Latest advances i
n efficiency and numerical methods will be discussed. \n\nWe believe this
course is quite unique within the atmospheric community. For more details
on the course see the draft timetable.\n\nTopics\n\n\n	Governing equation
 s\n	Hydrostatic/Non-hydrostatic dynamics\n	Horizontal and vertical discret
isations\n	Time-integration\, advection and high order space discretisatio
n schemes\n	Elliptic solvers\n	Numerical techniques for solving the progno
stic equations in the ECMWF model (IFS)\n	Numerical techniques for massive
ly parallel computer architectures expected in the future\n\n\nRequirement
s\n\nParticipants should have a good mathematical background\, and are exp
ected to be familiar with the contents of standard meteorological and math
ematical textbooks. A familiarity with python is useful for some of the pr
actical sessions.\n\nIntroductory material not covered by the course can b
e found in our lecture note series.\n\nSome practical experience in numer
ical weather prediction is an advantage.\n\nAll lectures will be given in
 English.\n\n\nhttps://events.ecmwf.int/event/206/
