Training course: EUMETSAT/ECMWF NWP-SAF satellite data assimilation

This course provides a complete overview of the usage of meteorological satellite observations in operational numerical weather prediction (NWP).
It includes a series of lectures and practical sessions covering a range of topics:

• Theoretical background - what satellites measure and data assimilation methods
• Infrared and Microwave radiances and the use of them in clear and cloudy conditions
• GPS Radio Occultation
• Winds from satellite data
• Satellite information about the land and ocean surface
• Observation errors and bias correction
