This course provides a complete overview of the usage of meteorological satellite observations in operational numerical weather prediction (NWP).
It includes a series of lectures and practical sessions covering a range of topics:
Theoretical background - what satellites measure and data assimilation methods
Infrared and Microwave radiances and the use of them in clear and cloudy conditions
GPS Radio Occultation
Winds from satellite data
Satellite information about the land and ocean surface
Observation errors and bias correction
