DESCRIPTION:\n\n\nThis training course was held virtually.\n\nThis five-da
 y course is a combination of lectures\, hands-on practicals using the Sing
 le Column Model\, and group problem classes. An example timetable from the
  online course in 2021 gives you some idea of what will be covered.\n\nDur
 ing the course each parametrized process is introduced and then discusses 
 theory\, modelling and verification over several sessions.\n\nProcesses co
 nsidered\n\n\n	General aspects of parametrization and their relation to sy
 stematic forecast errors\n	Radiation in numerical weather prediction\n	The
  parametrization of moist processes (convection and clouds)\n	The planetar
 y boundary layer\n	Land surface processes\n	Parametrization of subgrid-sca
 le orographic effects\n	The representation of physical processes in data a
 ssimilation\n\n\nPre-course study\n\nParticipants will be expected to take
  up to 4 online modules before taking the course.  This will provide intr
 oductory information on parametrization\, convection\, single column model
 ling and the metview interface that will be used in the practical sessions
 .\n\nIt is anticipated that this study will take around 3 hours depending 
 on levels of prior knowledge.\n\nCourse format\n\nThis course will offer t
 wo levels of participation:\n\nLevel 1: Attend in person at ECMWF's headqu
 arters to attend lessons & practical sessions. A course certificate will b
 e issued.\n\nLevel 2: Remote access to lessons and opportunity to ask ques
 tions in a forum\; no access to practical sessions. A course certificate w
 ill not be issued.\n\nPlease indicate on the registration form which level
  you are applying for.\n\nRequirements\n\nParticipants should have a good 
 meteorological and mathematical background\, and are expected to be famili
 ar with the contents of standard meteorological and mathematical textbooks
 .\n\nIntroductory material not covered by the course can be found in our l
 ecture note series.\n\nSome practical experience in numerical weather pred
 iction is an advantage.\n\nAll lectures will be given in English.\n\n\nhtt
