DESCRIPTION: ECMWF’s first new scientific model upgrade in the new Data
Centre in Bologna\, IFS Cycle 48r1\, is running in near real-time test mo
de\, ahead of its implementation targeted for 27 June 2023.  While all fo
recast users will benefit from improved model performance\, Cycle 48r1 wil
l also bring a number of technical changes: An increase of the medium-ran
ge ensemble (ENS) horizontal resolution from 18 to 9 km A major upgrade o
f the configuration of the extended-range ensemble (ENS extended): Rather
than being an extension of the medium-range forecasts starting twice a wee
k at day 15 it will be a separate system\, running daily from 00 UTC out t
o day 46 with 101 members. The introduction of CCSDS compression to reduc
e data volumes of GRIB2 dataThese technical changes will affect many real-
time data users\, in particular those using ensemble data. For a smooth im
plementation it is paramount that as many users as possible are testing th
e new model output in their processing chains ahead of  the implementatio
 n. In this webinar we will give an overview on the technical changes\, ex
plain how to get and use test data\, and highlight some practical consider
ations linked to the implementation. The presentation will be followed by
a Q&A session.  AttendanceThis webinar is open to all ECMWF data and for
ecast users. If you would like to attend the webinar\, please complete the
registration form to receive the joining information. This webinar will ta
ke place on Thursday\, 1 June 2023\; 13:00-14:00 UTC.A recording of the we
binar will be made available from the  48r1 implementation page.\n\nhttps
