DESCRIPTION:\nThis five-day course is a combination of lectures\, hands-on
practicals using the Single Column Model\, and group problem classes. \n
During the course each parametrized process is introduced and then discuss
es theory\, modelling and verification over several sessions.\nPlease make
sure to consult the confirmed timetable on the left-hand side menu for ti
mings of classes.\nProcesses considered\n\nGeneral aspects of parametrizat
ion and their relation to systematic forecast errors\nRadiation in numeric
al weather prediction\nThe parametrization of moist processes (convection
 and clouds)\nThe planetary boundary layer\nLand surface processes\nParamet
rization of subgrid-scale orographic effects\nThe representation of physic
al processes in data assimilation\n\nPre-course study\nParticipants will b
e expected to take up to 4 online modules before taking the course. This w
ill provide introductory information on parametrization\, convection and s
ingle column modelling that will be used in the practical sessions.\nIt is
anticipated that this study will take around 3 hours depending on levels
of prior knowledge.\nRequirements\nParticipants should have a good meteoro
logical and mathematical background\, and are expected to be familiar with
the contents of standard meteorological and mathematical textbooks.\nIntr
oductory material not covered by the course can be found in our lecture no
te series.\nSome practical experience in numerical weather prediction is a
 n advantage.\nAll lectures are given in English.\n\nhttps://emea.dcv.ms/8U
