DESCRIPTION:\nPart of ECMWF's 50th anniversary celebrations in Bologna tak
 ing place at:\nDAMA - Tecnopolo di Bologna\, Via Stalingrado 84/3\, 40128
Bologna\nExploring the past\, present and future of HPC in meteorology\nOv
erview and theme\nAs we celebrate 50 years of ECMWF\, we invited you to th
e 21st edition of our biennial workshop on the use of high-performance com
puting (HPC) in meteorology\, taking place from 15 to 19 September in Bol
 ogna\, Italy.\nThis year's theme\, Exploring the Past\, Present and Future
of HPC in Meteorology\, highlights the transformative impact that high-pe
rformance computing has had over the years in advancing weather forecastin
g\, climate modelling\, and extreme event prediction and the crucial role
it continues to play in the present and in the future.\nWith the rapid evo
lution of exascale computing\, data-driven modelling\, and sustainability
challenges\, this workshop provided a timely opportunity to reflect on t
he past\, assess current developments\, and explore future directions in c
 omputational meteorology. \nWe welcomed researchers\, industry experts\,
and policymakers to join us in examining cutting-edge advances\, engaging
in insightful discussions\, and sharing breakthroughs with leading scienti
sts and technologists shaping the future of the field.\nWorkshop descripti
on and aims\nEvery two years\, ECMWF hosts a workshop on the use of high-p
erformance computing (HPC) in meteorology. The workshop provides an opport
unity to bring together experts from across the national weather centres\,
academia and industry to discuss and present recent developments and impa
ct of high-performance computing for weather forecasting applications.\nIt
  was opportune\, given the Centre’s 50 years of operation\, to reflect o
n the role of supercomputing facilities in advancing insights into numeric
al weather prediction and how these services will need to evolve to meet t
he new challenges facing the meteorology communities.\nOur aim is to provi
de a forum where users from our Member States and experts around the world
can report on recent experiences\, achievements and plans in the diverse
 field of high-performance computing.\n \n\nhttps://events.ecmwf.int/event
