DESCRIPTION:\nThis five-day course is a combination of lectures\, hands-on
practicals and group problem classes. \nDuring the course each parametri
zed process is introduced and discusses theory\, modelling and verificatio
n over several sessions.\nProcesses considered\n\ngeneral aspects of param
etrization and their relation to systematic forecast errors\nradiation in
numerical weather prediction\nthe parametrization of moist processes (conv
ection\, sub-grid clouds and microphysical processes)\nthe planetary bound
ary layer and turbulent mixing\nland surface processes\nparametrization of
subgrid-scale orographic effects\nthe representation of physical processe
s in data assimilation\n\nRequirements\nParticipants should have a good me
teorological and mathematical background\, and are expected to be familiar
with the contents of standard meteorological and mathematical textbooks.\
nSome practical experience in numerical weather prediction is an advantage
. Familiarity with Jupyter notebooks is desirable.\nAdditional Resources\n
eLearning modules related to some of the topics covered in the course are
available on the ECMWF eLearning website.\nIntroductory material can also
be found in our lecture note series.\nAll lectures will be given in Engli
 sh.\n\n\nhttps://events.ecmwf.int/event/496/
