DESCRIPTION:\nThis course is a 5-day online training providing an introduc
tion to ECMWF data services and the main tools used to access\, process an
d visualise ECMWF data. \nEvery day is dedicated to a different topic\, a
nd participants may apply to attend the entire training week\, or apply on
ly to individual sessions that are of interest and benefit to them.\nThe t
raining focuses on practical workflows for retrieving data from the ECMWF
archive and working with meteorological data formats using modern software
tools.\nParticipants will gain hands-on experience with the Meteorologica
l Archival and Retrieval System (MARS)\, ECMWF’s primary archive for met
eorological data\, and the Earthkit Python ecosystem\, which provides tool
s for working with ECMWF datasets. The course will also introduce ecCodes\
, the ECMWF software package for decoding and encoding meteorological data
formats such as GRIB and BUFR.\nThe course will be delivered as a mixture
of presentations (via Teams) and practical sessions\, with additional sup
port provided through Teams breakout rooms.\nThe target audience are users
from ECMWF Member and Co-operating States who work with ECMWF data or pla
n to access the ECMWF archive and data services in their workflows.\nPrere
quisites\nIn order to follow the course\, participants will need to have t
he access to MARS archive and ECMWF dissemination services.\nPrior knowled
ge of Linux (Unix) and Python is an advantage to follow the course. Basic
Linux skills will be useful for navigating EMCWF computing environment and
running command-line MARS tools. Python will be used during the practical
sessions for accessing\, processing and visualising ECMWF data using Eart
hkit and ecCodes libraries.\nAll lectures will be given in English.\nAll l
ectures will be recorded and published on the ECMWF YouTube channel.\n\nAp
plication process\nEvery day of the training is dedicated to a different t
opic\, please carefully read the below descriptions of the topic that will
be taught each day.\nThere are 2 different application options:\n\nYou ma
y apply to attend the full course\, if all sessions are relevant for you.
In that case\, please make sure to underline how this is the case in your
application.\nYou may apply only for the individual days of interest or re
levance to you. \n\n \nPlease choose only one of the two above applicati
on options. \nIn case you'd like to change application options after you
have applied\, please get in touch with us at training@ecmwf.int.\nApplica
tion forms: \n\nFull course application\nIndividual days application: plea
se use the daily links in the descriptions below\n\n\nDay 1 - Introduction
  to working with MARS archive\nMonday 12 October 13:00 BST - 16:30 BST\nTh
is day introduces participants to ECMWF’s Meteorological Archival and Re
trieval System (MARS)\, the primary system used to access ECMWF forecast a
nd archived data.\nParticipants will learn how the archive is structured a
nd how to retrieve data efficiently using MARS requests. The sessions will
cover the basic concepts of the MARS language\, common retrieval workflow
s\, and best practices for constructing efficient queries.\nThe day includ
es several hands-on exercises where participants will practise retrieving
data and integrating MARS access into their workflows.\nIn order to partic
ipate in this part of the course\, participants will need to have the acce
ss to MARS archive. To find out how to gain the access\, please visit our
 website.\nSpeakers: TBCApply for Day 1\n\nDay 2 - Advanced MARS workflows\
 , best practices and common use cases\nTuesday 13 October 8:30 BST - 16:30
BST\nThe second day continues the exploration of the MARS archive with a
stronger focus on practical exercises and real-world workflows.\nParticipa
nts will learn more advanced retrieval techniques\, how to optimise reques
ts\, and how to integrate MARS into automated scripts and data-processing
pipelines. Additional time will be dedicated to hands-on sessions where pa
rticipants can practise working with different types of ECMWF datasets and
discuss common retrieval challenges.\nIn order to participate in this par
t of the course\, participants will need to have the access to MARS archiv
 e. To find out how to gain the access\, please visit our website.\nSpeaker
s: TBCApply for Day 2 \n\nDay 3 - Tools for working with ECMWF Data: Eart
 hkit\nWednesday 14 October 8:30 BST - 16:30 BST\nThis day introduces Earth
Kit\, ECMWF’s Python ecosystem for working with meteorological data.\nPa
rticipants will learn how to use different EarthKit components to access\,
process and visualise ECMWF data. The sessions will include demonstration
s and exercises using:\n\n\nearthkit-data for accessing and loading meteor
 ological datasets\n\n\nearthkit-plots for creating visualisations\n\n\near
thkit-geo for providing geospatial computations\n\nearthkit-transforms for
transformations of data in specific domains\n\nThe training focuses on bu
ilding practical Python workflows for analysing and visualising ECMWF data
.\nSpeakers: TBCApply for Day 3\n\nDay 4 - Tools for working with ECMWF Da
 ta: Earthkit and ecCodes\nThursday 15 October 8:30 BST - 16:30 BST\nThis d
ay continues with the introduction to EarthKit ecosystem for working wit
h meteorological data. The sessions will include demonstrations and exerci
ses using:\n\nearthkit-meteo for meteorological computations using array
input (Numpy\, Torch and CuPy) and output\nearthkit-hydro for common hydro
logical functions\n\nThe second part of the day will be dedicated to ecCod
es\, ECMWF’s software package for decoding\, inspecting and processing m
eteorological data formats such as GRIB and BUFR.\nAn update on the ongoin
g transition to GRIB2 will be covered during this day.\nSpeakers: TBCApply
  for Day 4\n\nDay 5 - ECMWF Data Services applications\nFriday 16 October
8:30 BST - 12:30 BST\nThe final day introduces selected ECMWF data service
applications for users receiving real-time data through dissemination ser
vices.\nThe focus will be on the ECMWF’s new unified application for man
aging real-time data requirements\, which is the result of a recent merge
of the Product Requirements Editor (PREd) and Product Requirements Catalog
ue (PRC)\, as well as the ECMWF Production Data Store (ECPDS).\nThis day i
s aimed at users who manage or plan to manage real-time data delivery of E
CMWF data in their organisations.\nIn order to participate in this part of
the course\, participants will need to have the access to PREd\, PRC and
ECPDS. To find out how to gain the access\, please visit our website.\nSpe
