DESCRIPTION:\nThis 4-day course aims to enhance participants’ ability to
examine\, assess\, and utilise ECMWF forecast products and to provide adv
anced training on the operational aspects of the ECMWF forecasting system.
\nThe training is designed primarily for operational forecasting staff a
nd those who are (or will be) using ECMWF forecast products directly in th
eir role. \nMain topics\nThe programme combines lectures covering key com
ponents of the ECMWF forecasting system and forecast products with interac
tive\, hands-on sessions. Working in small groups alongside expert trainer
s\, participants will analyse forecast case studies to assess forecast per
formance at different lead times. Participants will also learn how to effe
ctively use web applications such as ecCharts for data visualisation.\nTop
ics include:\n\nDiscover ECMWF products\nExtreme forecast Index (EFI) and
Shift of Tails (SoT)\necPoint and Point Rainfall\nIntroduction to Verifica
 tion\nModel Physics\nMachine Learning models for operational forecasting\n
\n \nRequirements\nThis course is an advanced training for operational we
ather forecasters in different capacities. Anyone using ECMWF forecast pro
ducts in research and development work may also benefit.\nParticipants sho
uld have a meteorological background and experience in assessing ... Addit
ionally\, some first experience with ECMWF products and knowledge of the E
CMWF forecasting systems are a plus.\nTo ensure participants are well-prep
ared and able to fully engage with the course content\, a set of pre-cours
e activities will be required. These activities\, estimated to take up to
8 hours of self-paced study\, include completing online e-learning modules
\, creating a poster showcasing how the participant currently uses ECMWF p
roducts in their work\, and contributing to online discussion forums. The
completion of these tasks will ensure all participants have the knowledge
to get the most out of the in-person part of the course and it will also h
elp the trainers to better understand what participants would like to achi
eve and discuss.\nThis training is in-person\, and all lectures will be gi
