DESCRIPTION:\n\nWorkshop description\n\nEvery second year ECMWF hosts a wo
 rkshop on the use of high performance computing in meteorology. High perfo
 rmance computer architectures are becoming ever more complex which present
 s significant challenges for the ongoing development of operational meteor
 ological applications.\n\nThe 18th workshop on high performance computing 
 in meteorology took place at ECMWF\, Reading\, UK\, 24-28 September 2018.\
 n\nThis workshop looked especially at scalability and I/O of weather and c
 limate applications on HPC systems.\n\nIn particular we invited presentati
 ons addressing the following topics related to weather and climate applica
 tions:\n\n\n	    Modelling mathematics and numerical methods\n	    P
 rogramming models and domain-specific languages (DSL)\n	    High perfor
 mance I/O and post-processing\n	    Operational use of HPC in weather a
 nd climate\n	    Machine learning and data analytics\n	    Large dat
 aset visualisation\n\n\nWorkshop aims\n\nOur aim is to provide a venue whe
 re users from our Member States and around the world can report on their e
 xperience and achievements in the field of high performance computing duri
 ng the last two years\; plans for the future and requirements for computin
