
In 2025, ECMWF is marking its 50th anniversary with a series of publications and events highlighting some of the key scientific developments that have been achieved in collaboration with our Member States within the European Meteorological Infrastructure, and with our partners around the globe.
The first week of events took place in Bonn, Germany from 7 to 11 April. A further week of events took place in Bologna, Italy from 15 to 19 September. The next week of events will take place in Reading, UK from 1 to 3 December. Events being held during this week are:

The National Meteorological Services of several of ECMWF Member States will present their activities in the field of machine learning in weather forecasting, including how it is being used in parallel with physics-based models, and the improvement this is allowing.

Overview
From 17.30, at our headquarters in Reading, UK, former and current Director-Generals of ECMWF, Lennart Bengtsson, Dave Burridge, Dominique Marbouty, Alan Thorpe and Florence Rabier will share thoughts and anecdotes about their time at ECMWF. The talks will be followed with a panel discussion involving our key partners from EUMETSAT, ESA, WMO, EUMETNET and the European Commission.
