Online Training course: Use and interpretation of ECMWF products

| Online | 5-8 February 2024

This is an online only course, there will be future opportunities to attend an in-person version of this course.

The aim of the course is to increase participants’ ability to examine, assess, and utilise ECMWF output products and to provide advanced training on the operational aspects of the ECMWF forecasting system. It is directed towards users who are (or will be) using ECMWF forecasting products either directly as forecasting staff or in research and development work. The course aims to help users get maximum benefit from the Centre's products.

Lectures on a variety of aspects of the ECMWF forecasting system and ECMWF forecasting products will be complemented with practical sessions where participants will work in small groups with an expert trainer to assess ECMWF forecasts in case study situations. Participants will also learn how to effectively use web applications for forecast data visualisation.

Participants will be required to complete pre-course activities which will take up to 12 hours of self-study. These activities include completing online e-learning modules, creating a poster or presentation on how ECMWF products are currently used by the participants and contributing to online discussion forums. The completion of these tasks will ensure all participants have the knowledge to get the most out of the interactive part of the course and it will also help the trainers to better understand what you would like to achieve and discuss during the course.

All lectures will be given in English.

Please note that the draft timetable of the course provides a first indication of topics covered during the course.
