Part of ECMWF's 50th anniversary celebrations in Bologna
Overview
As part of ECMWF's 50th anniversary, the Code for Earth Final Day will take place on 16 September in Bologna, Italy.
Code for Earth is a collaborative programme run by ECMWF that aims to drive innovation and open source developments within the Earth sciences community. This initiative supports advancements in weather forecasting, climate and atmospheric monitoring, Copernicus and Destination Earth.
Since 2018, each summer, selected developer teams work together for four months with experienced mentors from ECMWF and partner organisations on mentor-identified challenges related to the broad scope of activities at ECMWF, including data science, AI/ML applications to weather, climate or other Earth sciences, visualisation and more.
Beginning with the 2024 edition, Code for Earth expands and welcomes innovative ideas and mentorship collaboration from ECMWF's partner network.
Code for Earth Final Day
From May to August, the selected teams, guided by experts and Code for Earth mentors, will develop meaningful project-driven solutions to this year’s challenges summarised in streams: Data Visualization, Software Development and Machine Learning. They will present their project results during the Final Day, a celebration marking the conclusion of the Code for Earth programme that promises to be a day filled with open innovation.
