Informal Seminar: Delving Into the FAIR Principles

About the presenter

Dr. Ge Peng is a Senior Principal Research Scientist at the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH), supporting NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) Interagency Implementation and Advanced Concepts Team (IMPACT) Project as a data stewardship lead. Dr. Peng specializes in data statistical analysis and has extensive experience working with various types of observations and model outputs. Her research focuses on the long-term variability of Earth system variables, including atmospheric winds and temperatures, sea surface temperatures and ice coverages.

Dr. Peng is a strong advocate for data sharing and quality information. Over the past decade, she has spearheaded cutting-edge research and applications on scientific data stewardship, collaborating with national and international organizations like NASA, NOAA, and WMO. The data stewardship frameworks developed include the NOAA/CICS-NC Scientific Data Stewardship Maturity Matrix (DSMM), the WMO Stewardship Maturity Matrix For Climate Data (SMM-CD), and global community guidelines for FAIR quality information. She has contributed to the development and applications of the RDA FAIR Data Maturity Assessment Model and the WMO High Quality Global Data Management Framework for Climate (HQ-GDMFC).

Currently, Dr. Peng chairs the WMO Expert Team on Information Management (ET-IM) and the NASA Earth Science Data Systems Open, Free & FAIR Working Group (O’FAIR WG). She co-chairs the Information Quality Cluster (IQC) of Earth Science Information Partners (ESIP) and serves as an At-Large member to the ESIP Board of Directors. Additionally, she is an external member of the Advisory Board to the Supporting and Standardising Climate Services Project of Horizon Europe – Climate 2.
