Presenter
Florian Pappenberger, ECMWF's Deputy Director-General and Director of Forecasts and Services Department
Description
On Tuesday 25 February 2025, a new version of the deterministic model of the Artificial Intelligence Forecasting System (AIFS) will be released and supported operationally. This release marks a pivotal milestone in ECMWF history, as AIFS Single v1 will be the first AIFS model to be made fully operational.
In addition to the operationalisation of AIFS Single, v1 will supersede the existing experimental version, v0.2.1. The new version will bring changes to the deterministic AIFS model, including among many others:
- Improved performance for upper-level atmospheric variables.
- Improved scores for total precipitation.
- Additional output variables, including 100 meter winds, snow-fall, solar-radiation and land variables such as soil-moisture and soil-temperature.
In this webinar Florian Pappenberger, ECMWF's Deputy Director-General and Director of Forecasts and Services Department, will introduce AIFS Single v1 and its performance. The presentation will be followed by a Q&A session.
This webinar will take place on Wednesday, 19 February 2025; 10:00-11:00 UTC.
A recording of the webinar will be made available from the Implementation of AIFS page.
