Using ECMWF's Forecasts (UEF2025)
Thematic areas
UEF2025 focuses on the following thematic areas
- Exploring the past - celebrating and examining how ECMWF's products and services have evolved, key milestones achieved, and the impact of collaborative activities. This may include reflections on lessons learned and how historical perspectives can inform future advancements in weather and climate forecasting.
- Evaluating the present - showcasing recent advancements in forecasting products and services and their ability to meet the needs of the meteorological community. Topics may include the impact of new forecast products or methodologies including machine learning. Case studies on forecast performance and challenges are particularly welcome.
- Envisioning the future - focusing on emerging technologies, novel forecasting methodologies, the future integration of machine learning, evolving user needs, and the ongoing importance of collaboration and communication. Anticipated challenges and opportunities for the next decades are key topics are especially encouraged.
- Special session - UEF2025 meets HPC - As the 21st High Performance Computing workshop is also taking place in Bologna during the same week, UEF2025 is taking the opportunity to join with this exciting event for half a day to explore crossover topics. UEF2025 therefore welcomes abstracts with a stronger computational component which will appeal to both forecast user and HPC user communities. Submissions exploring current approaches of designing and supporting users, e.g. via training, across both communities are also encouraged.
